Choosing the best from among the many web hosting services may be a bit complicated especially if you have no experience yet. It is something that you have to take seriously when you are just starting to set up your own website, especially if it is for business purposes. In choosing the one that’s best for your needs, it will help if you at least have an idea of the different types of web hosting services.
Here are some of the most common types available today. 1) Shared Web Hosting. This is the most common. You are actually sharing the same server with several clients of your hosting company. There may be tens or hundreds of you. Since you are sharing the same server with several websites, the cost is of course cheaper.

However, with the very same reason, it may not be the best for you in terms of efficiency. There are limitations like you have no full control of the server. You can’t just install any software you may find beneficial for you because it might cause harm to others who are sharing with you.
2) Dedicated Web Hosting. Unlike the first type, it allows you to use the server for all your needs without having to share it with others. Just make sure that it supports all the scripts or software that your site may require. However, it’s more expensive because you shoulder all the cost of leasing the server.
It also requires technical knowledge or expertise to operate it. 3) Managed Web Hosting. It is almost similar to the second type but on a higher level in the sense that you don’t need to have technical knowledge or experience or hire the services of experts to operate it because your webhost handles this job.
So you don’t have to worry of monitoring, reporting, security set-up, load balancing, software updates and system administration. However, this is more expensive and might be costly on your part. 4) Virtual Private Servers or VPS Web Hosting. It has the characteristics of both the shared and the dedicated type.
You actually share the server with a number of clients of the webhost but the service is dedicated because you have an allocated portion of the resources. That portion is all yours and available to you all the time. This is best when you don’t want to compete with other users for the resources and at the same time don’t need a dedicated service.
5) Free Web Hosting. As its name suggest, it’s free. You may find it right for you if you don’t want to spend much or when you can’t yet afford the services of a paid one, especially when you are just starting and just want to have an experience. Since it is free, of course you cannot expect so much from it and it’s likely to happen that you may encounter various problems like limited space for your database and many technical restrictions.
Now that you know the types of some of the most common web hosting services, you can now decide to choose what’s right for you. Remember that what’s best for you depends on your needs and financial capability. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive or recommended by a greater number of people.
After all, you don’t have the same needs. So get only the one that actually suits your needs.
