Getting Intimate With Spam Mails

Tags: , , ,

Is there an end to the tireless and annoying spam emails? We keep on ranting about spam mails every time we open our emails but have you ever thought how spams end up in your inbox? Spam mails generally are unsolicited emails offering services, promoting sites or selling products, a form of email advertising or email marketing You might keep on receiving the same promotional materials for a year! Everyone who surfs the web is an easy target for spammers.

There are countless ways on how your address ends up in someone's mailing list. Most common is the list sharing of different businesses or companies. Keeping a list of a business’s current customers, patrons or subscribers is a legitimate activity but sharing it to other companies is not. Someone who has access to a company’s database of current or potential customers might be tempted to earn a dollar or two by selling the list to a competitor as email leads.

Websites asking you to enter your email to their guest book before you can actually enter the site is another way. They might also have a disclaimer stating that your contact information will not be shared, published or given out to anyone. There’s a glitch, they did not say they won’t be sending you tons of emails promoting their product or the website itself.

A lot of people are mislead with this method. The trick is to have an alternate address designated mainly for this kind of activity. Once you’ve entered the bogus address, you are free to look around and if you can’t find anything interesting you can go freely without worrying about junk mail.

Random email list gathering using the domain name is probably the most effective way of getting email addresses. Countless people worldwide use Google alone. They employ the strategy called guess email. For example: john@gmail.com. They would add numbers to ‘john’ and other characters randomly and send emails to them. Another trick they do is to send promotion to standard addresses like info@yourcompany.com, support@yourcompany.com and other staple divisions or departments of other companies.

Web spiders could either be a program or a person who scouts websites and gather every information they can find outright in the websites. They compile it and sell it to those interested parties who do direct marketing using email. Innocent conversation in chat rooms and forums is also another way of generating emails.

Considering the popularity of chat rooms, one only needs to "park" their screen names and wait for someone to start a conversation. Probably, the screen name of an active user is part of his or her email address. Another ingenious but low key strategy of getting emails is the friend and family list.

Emails are obtained using forwarded messages to close and not-so-close friends and family. This is a goldmine for legitimate emails. These contacts are active users who communicate regularly. One must be cautious in giving out information especially personal details. Spam mails are a waste of time and not to mention annoying.

They take up so much space in your inbox. Yes, you can filter them and put them all in your junk mailbox, but the hassle of purging them out from your mail is beyond tolerable.
