SEO, SEO, SEO . . . You've probably heard
that mentioned or seen that discussed in
forums.
SEO?
What is it?
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization,
a process of steps to assure that your site
is placed higher in search engine results than
those of your competitors.
This means that when a potential customer
makes a search engine search in your niche
market your site is seen first in the results.
Getting on the 1st page of any search engine
result is very important since, as a rule, most
people don't bother to go beyond the 1st page
of any search engine result.
At most they will go to the second page but
for the most part they stick to the 1st page.
Your probably do this. I know I have, and more
than a few times.
This is because most people don't have the
time to go any further. That, or they figure
the ones on the succeeding pages are not
as good as the ones on the first page.
Now you know and I know that this is not
necessarily true but the perception is there.

There are two kinds of SEO - paid and organic,
otherwise known as natural.
The first one, paid, is as the name suggest
one wherein you pay for or bid on the key
words used most in searches and if you are
able to outbid your competitors then your
site gets placed on the front page of the search
engine results whenever that search key word
is used.
Organic or natural SEO on the other hand,
is where your site gets to be ranked in the
search pages because of its own merits and
not because you paid anything.

Of course now you're asking whether you
need to hire someone to do the SEO for
you or if you can do it yourself.
I will say that hiring a professional white hat
SEO person or company to do it for you is
a good idea and will reap benefits.
That being said doing that may be difficult
if you're just starting out.
So why not do it yourself?
You can and many do. It's not really rocket
science and once you set your mind to it, it
is a doable endeavor.
You need to commit yourself to the process
though.
It does not mean that once you set your SEO
today you're all set for life.
No, it does not work like that.
Since you're gearing yourself towards the
search engines you always need to be on
the ball to any changes in those search engine
algorithms.
At the same time you also need to keep
abreast of what your competitors are doing
so that you always are ahead of them.
You also need to keep tabs on what works
and what doesn't.
Not all SEO strategies and tactics work for
every site, especially in specific niche markets
where competition is fierce.
You may need to do more in those markets
in order to be ranked higher.
And you need to have patience . . . a lot of
patience.
Why do I say that?
Simply because SEO is not instantaneous.
It's not a process that will give you results
overnight.
If you want instant gratification go buy yourself
something.
With SEO you need to have patience because
it's going to take time before you even see
any results, positive or negative.
Give yourself the ability to track what's working
and what's not.
More importantly keep studying SEO. There
are a lot of good sites out there that will give
you
And don't be discouraged. Internet marketing
is a long term endeavor.
There's no golden button that you can press
and everything will come out roses.
No. Internet marketing is more complicated
than that.
It's not something you can muck along just
by yourself.
