So You Want To Use Flash The Pros And Cons
Why be the only one without your own website.

complicated HTML

*********************************************************************
Nowadays you often see a lot of website
using flash animation.
It has become a powerful tool in a website
owner's arsenal.
Its popularity has made it every website owner
and creator's must have list.
But before you go all out and incorporate it
in your own site know the advantages and
disadvantages of using it first.
Flash is offered by Macromedia and allows
users to design and deliver animations and
presentations.
It offers graphics and animation capabilities
- sophisticated and smooth animations, color
blending, opacity and typography.
It supports audio, animation, and advanced
interactivity
Despite that file sizes can be made relatively
smaller as compared with GIF or video files.
It can also be used by almost every web
browser currently available.
And let's admit it, flash does add a lot of
pizzazz to your website.
That being said, if you make your website
out of flash you may encounter some usability
issues foremost of which is the use of the
back button in web browsers.
With flash you don't get to use the back
button as it is intended.
Clicking on the back button in a flash based
website will bring you back to the site you
were in prior to the flash one.
It does not bring you back to the page you
were in prior in the flash site.
This means you potentially have to re-navigate
your way back and if you have the patience
then well and good but some people may not
want to redo it all over again.
Alternative text capabilities are also limited
or otherwise lacking.
More importantly search engine crawlers and
readers can't read flash because they can't
read images and for them flash is an image.
This means that search engines can only do
limited indexing of your site's content - if at
all.
Without the ability to be indexed your site's
ranking will be low which will affect the traffic
that will be going there.
And some people are just not into the whole
animation in a web page thing.
They're the ones who click away from a site
that has video on it as it loads so you may
want to put that into consideration.
At the end of the day, you as the site owner
has to decide whether or not you will use
flash and to what extent.
Personally, I would not recommend using
flash on your site and flash only.
Use flash as you would any other website
tool - to help accentuate a point or important
features.
Basically use flash only where it is needed
and nowhere else.
Design your own website your own way.
