************************************************************
When it comes to internet
marketing, choosing the right
keywords is key if you want
your website more visible
to search engines and
searchers alike.
It is an important part of SEO
or Search Engine Optimization.
Basically, you want relevant,
targeted keywords that can
help get you to the top of
search engine rankings.
At the same time, keywords
help attract visitors that are
interested in your web site's
content and the product(s)
you're offering.
When your customers enter
keywords to search, you want
them to find YOUR website
and not those of your
competitors.
************************************************************
To start with, you need to
create and set your keyword
strategy when you design
your site.
You need to think about who
your target audience is, and
what the primary focus of
your website will be.
Answering these two questions
will help you select appropriate
keywords because it makes
you think about how your site's
content will serve its intended
audience.
List down the words and key
phrases that you think your
customers may use in search
engines when looking for your
site or your product.
Be creative. They may be using
a whole different set of search
words than the one you're
thinking about.
If you want you can do simple
market research by asking
people or friends you know
what words they use to do
a search for similar sites
and/or products.
Make sure that the keywords
are related and site specific.
Once you have your list check
on each keyword's popularity -
that is how many sites use
the same keywords and how
often people use those key-
words to search.
You can use Google Adwords
keywords tool.
It not only allows you to find
keywords that other people
are searching on but also
offers other key word search
terms that are related to
your keywords.
Once you cut down your list
to those you feel works with
your overall concept include
them in your site.
Use a meta keyword tag
into the HEAD section of
your document and list all
your keywords.
Use this tag on every page
of your site.
If you're using a keyword
that's easy to spell wrong,
especially if you often spell
it wrong yourself, include
that wrong spelling as a key-
word but please not as part
of your content.
Use the plural forms of your
keywords as well.
Use your selected keywords
early and often in your titles,
subtitles, and content as well.
And No, repeating the same
keywords over and over again
or using keywords that are
very popular but not relevant
to your site will NOT work.
Well let me digress they
may work but since they
are all considered "Black
Hat" SEO tactics, search
engines are on the look out
for them and it can lead to
your site being removed as
a worst case scenario.
Remember that it may not
work the first time or even
the second time around.
In fact you may wind up re-
working your keywords a
couple of times until you
get the right combination
for your site.
You need to be persistent
and patient about it.
