********************************************************************
You have a website. It's live and just waiting
for your first visitor.
Question: how do you bring visitors to your
site?
You could enter forums or by word of mouth
but that will take time and the number of
people may not amount to much.
If that's the case why not focus on ranking
your site high in the search engine results.
Why?
Because it's the search engines that bring
your website to the notice of your prospective
customers.
When they (your prospective customers)
type the topic they want to look for in the
search box, the search engine (Google or
Yahoo) will sift through the millions of pages
it has indexed and present you with the
ones it feels matches your search topic.
The results are also ranked in terms of
relevance.
However, when it comes to the results it is
best to note that your prospective customer
will probably only look at the first few listings
in the search results and typically will just
stay in the first page.
So even if you are able to rank, it won't make
much of an impact if you're ranked low in both
relevance and page number.
This would be the same depending on which
search engine the prospective customer(s)
use, especially since each search engine
uses its own set of algorithms when doing
the relevance rankings.
Keywords plays an important role in site
ranking.
To give you an idea as to the importance
of ranking well in search engines, surveys
of online usage in finding a site shows that
for the most part prospective customer(s)
found the sites they were looking for in one
of the following ways.
Most of them would usually find the site(s)
they were looking for through the search
engines.
They may find their sites by clicking on
that site's link from another page or site
that relates to the topic they were searching
for.
Or they may just go to it directly because
they were given the site url by a friend or by
an article they were reading.
No matter how you look at it, it's pretty
obvious the the most popular way to find
a site by using a search engine.
And I'm sure you know that as well since
you probably do your searching that way.
As I alluded to earlier all search engines
employ a ranking algorithm.
These algorithms may look at the location
and frequency of your site's keywords.
They may also give weight to the number
of web pages linking to your site.
By optimizing you site for search engines
you can rank your site higher and give it
more exposure for your prospective customers.
And it's not like you need to pay someone
to search engine optimize your site.
You can do it your own as well.
